We took Sam to meet the big guy for the first time last week. A fantastic little restaurant in Portland that caters to family's offers a special "dinner with Santa" package. We thought this would be the best way to get Sam warmed up to the idea of sitting on the lap of a large man dressed in red velvet. We met our friends at the restaurant early, so the kids could play around and work out some energy. Pretty soon we heard the familiar holiday sound of bells jingling from the back of the establishment. All the kids starting getting very excited and behold! The big guy made his grand entrance. Well, I should clarify. All the kids got excited except Sam. His facial expression was more of, "who is this clown?" Santa danced around to each table, greeting the families and spreading his magical cheer. Throughout this process Sam eyed the big guy carefully, watching his every move and growing more and more suspicous.
Finally, it was time for Sam to be formally introduced to the man who will, in the future, bring him loads of happiness and joy. As we approached Santa, Sam had this look in his eye. Not excitement, not joy but more like....
****SPOILER ALERT***

who is this random guy dressed in this getup? Yep, I'm pretty sure Sam has figured out that "Santa" was really the restaurant owner dressed up in a rented costume. Of course we think Sam is the most intelligent baby to ever grace the planet but this might be a little too much. Sam obliged us and sat on Santa's lap for 30 seconds, but the whole time he curoiusly eyed the beard, the glasses and the gloves, as if to say "does this guy really think he's pulling one over on me?" I just hope he doesn't spill the beans to the other baby's in our playgroup.

Yet another example of how dogs and babies are similar...Inca growls at Santa too. The photos of SamSam are adorable. How is he so big already? Clearly you need to have another baby. He doesn't qualify as one any more.
